Copper nickel flanges and stainless steel flanges differ in material composition, performance characteristics, appearance, processing difficulty and cost, application scenarios, etc. The following is a specific analysis:
Material composition
Copper-nickel flanges: the main component is copper, while containing a certain proportion of nickel, common such as monel alloy (nickel content of about 63% - 70%, copper content of about 28% - 34%), in addition may also contain a small amount of iron, manganese, silicon and other elements to improve its performance.
Stainless steel flange: the main component is iron, containing chromium (usually not less than 10.5%), nickel and other elements to achieve corrosion resistance. Commonly, there are 304 stainless steel (chromium content of about 18% - 20%, nickel content of about 8% - 10.5%) and 316 stainless steel (in 304 based on the addition of 2% - 3% of molybdenum).
Performance characteristics
Copper-nickel flanges: good corrosion resistance, especially for seawater and other chloride-containing media with excellent resistance, wear resistance is also good, low-temperature performance is superior, in the low-temperature environment can still maintain good toughness and strength.
Stainless steel flange: strong corrosion resistance, can resist the erosion of a variety of chemical media, different types of stainless steel flange in high temperature resistance, strength and other aspects of the difference, such as 316 stainless steel corrosion resistance is better than 304 stainless steel, especially for the chlorine-containing ions of the environment resistance is stronger.
Appearance
Copper-nickel flanges: usually show the characteristic color of copper alloy, generally golden yellow or light yellow, with smooth surface and metallic luster.
Stainless steel flange: the surface color is mostly silver gray, high gloss, after polishing and other treatments can show a mirror effect.
Processing difficulty and cost
Copper-nickel flanges: copper-nickel alloy is relatively difficult to process, its hardness and strength is high, the processing process and equipment requirements are high, and copper and nickel and other metals are relatively high price, so the cost is also high.
Stainless steel flange: processing difficulty varies according to the type of stainless steel, generally speaking, austenitic stainless steel such as 304, 316, etc. Processing difficulty is relatively large, but slightly lower than copper-nickel alloy. The cost of stainless steel is relatively low compared to copper-nickel alloy, in which 304 stainless steel price is more common and economic, 316 stainless steel because of molybdenum elements, the price is slightly higher.
Application Scenario
Copper-nickel flanges: commonly used in marine engineering, shipbuilding and other fields, such as seawater desalination equipment, seawater cooling system of ships, etc. They are also suitable for some chemical and electric power industries which require high corrosion resistance and low temperature performance.
Stainless steel flange: widely used in chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, food, construction and other industries. They are used in chemical piping system for conveying various corrosive media; they are used for connecting pipelines in water supply and drainage, HVAC systems of buildings; they are used for connecting equipment and pipelines in the food and pharmaceutical industries because of their compliance with hygiene standards.
