How much do different surface treatments affect the corrosion resistance of large diameter stainless steel tee fittings?

Mechanical treatment
Sandblasting: The main function is to clean the surface of impurities and oxidized skin, in preparation for subsequent treatment. Simple sandblasting treatment has limited improvement in corrosion resistance, but the rough surface after treatment can increase the adhesion of coating or passivation film, thus indirectly improving the overall corrosion resistance. If sandblasting is not followed by protective treatment, the rough surface may be more likely to absorb impurities and moisture, to a certain extent, reduce corrosion resistance.
Mechanical polishing: can make the surface of the pipe fittings more smooth, reduce surface defects and gaps, reduce the accumulation of corrosive media and the possibility of adhesion, the corrosion resistance has some enhancement. However, because there is no change in the surface chemistry of stainless steel, its enhancement effect is relatively limited, in some highly corrosive environment, may not be able to provide adequate protection.
Drawing treatment: Although it improves the appearance and feel of the fittings, the texture formed by drawing will increase the surface roughness and surface area, making it easier for corrosive media to contact the metal surface, and to a certain extent, it will reduce corrosion resistance, and usually needs to be combined with other protective measures to improve corrosion resistance.
Chemical treatment
Pickling passivation: can effectively remove the oxidized skin and impurities on the surface of stainless steel, and the formation of a layer of chromium-rich passivation film on the surface, this passivation film can prevent oxygen and other corrosive media contact with the metal substrate, greatly improving the corrosion resistance of stainless steel, can significantly enhance the stainless steel in the general atmospheric environment, water media, as well as some of the weak corrosive chemical media in the corrosion resistance.
Chemical polishing: not only can make the surface smooth, but also improve the microstructure of the stainless steel surface to a certain extent, so that the surface of the chromium element distribution is more uniform, help to improve the quality and integrity of the passivation film, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance, the effect is better than mechanical polishing, in some less harsh corrosive environment can provide better protection.
Surface coloring: the formation of a variety of colors on the surface of stainless steel film layer usually has a certain degree of corrosion resistance, part of the coloring process can also be formed on the surface of the structure similar to the passivation film, improve corrosion resistance. In addition, the color film layer can play a role in isolation, reduce the corrosive medium and metal substrate contact, but its corrosion resistance to enhance the degree depends on the specific coloring process and film quality.

Electrochemical treatment
Electrolytic polishing: through the electrochemical action of the stainless steel surface of the microscopic convex part of the dissolution, to get extremely smooth and clean surface, while further optimizing the surface passivation film, so that it is more dense, uniform, significantly improve corrosion resistance, in many harsh corrosive environments, such as solutions containing chloride ions, electrolytic polishing of the stainless steel tee fittings can show better corrosion resistance.
Electroplating: a layer of other metals, such as zinc, nickel, etc., plated on the surface of stainless steel, the stainless steel substrate can be isolated from the corrosive medium, providing additional corrosion protection. Especially for some occasions that require resistance to specific corrosive media, the selection of the appropriate plating metal can greatly improve the corrosion resistance of the fittings, but the plating layer may have pores or defects, in the long-term use of the process, the corrosive medium may reach the stainless steel substrate through these defects, resulting in corrosion.

Other treatments
