Common nickel alloy tubes are mainly solid solution strengthened and precipitation strengthened, in addition there are some special types, the following is the difference in their performance:
Solid solution strengthened nickel alloy tubes
Corrosion resistance: It has good resistance to uniform corrosion, and its performance is stable in many kinds of corrosive media such as acid, alkali and salt. For example, Inconel 600 alloy tube has excellent corrosion resistance to nitric acid, organic acids, etc. This is because the dense oxide film formed by nickel-chromium alloy elements can effectively prevent the erosion of corrosive media.
High-temperature stability: high temperature can maintain good organizational stability and mechanical properties, can be used for a long time at higher temperatures. Such as Inconel 625 alloy tube, in temperatures as high as 980 ℃ still has good resistance to oxidation and thermal corrosion resistance, its alloy composition of molybdenum and niobium and other elements to enhance the alloy's high temperature strength and stability.
Processing performance: relatively good, easy to cold and hot working molding, can be rolled, forging, bending and other processes to make a variety of shapes and specifications of the tube. This enables them to be more conveniently applied in different piping systems to meet various engineering design requirements.
Precipitation Strengthened Nickel Alloy Tubes
High strength: High strength and hardness through the precipitation strengthening mechanism. For example, Inconel 718 alloy tubes, whose yield and tensile strengths are much higher than those of solid solution strengthened nickel alloy tubes, are widely used in aerospace and other fields with extremely high requirements for material strength. This is due to the aluminum, titanium and other elements in the alloy in the heat treatment process to form a fine diffuse precipitation phase, hindering the dislocation movement, thus improving the strength of the alloy.
Good Fatigue Resistance: Exhibits excellent fatigue resistance under cyclic loading. This enables precipitation-reinforced nickel alloy tubes to withstand complex dynamic stresses and is suitable for components subjected to alternating loads, such as aircraft engines.
Medium and high temperature performance: In the medium and high temperature range (e.g., 650 - 950°C), it has a good ability to maintain mechanical properties, but its high temperature oxidation resistance is slightly inferior to that of solid solution strengthened type. However, through appropriate surface treatment or the addition of specific elements, its high-temperature oxidation resistance can also meet the requirements of many practical applications.
Special types of nickel alloy tubes
Corrosion-resistant alloy tubes: Some special corrosion-resistant alloy tubes, such as Hastelloy C-276, have excellent resistance to total corrosion, localized corrosion (e.g. pitting, crevice corrosion) and stress corrosion cracking. It performs well in environments containing highly corrosive media such as chlorides, sulfuric and nitric acids, thanks to the synergistic effect of its high molybdenum, chromium and small amounts of tungsten, which form a stable and protective passivation film.
Low-expansion alloy tubes: Tubes such as Invar alloys have an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent dimensional stability in environments with large temperature variations. This characteristic makes it an important application in precision instruments, aerospace and other fields that require high dimensional accuracy, effectively reducing errors and deformations caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
