316 Stainless Steel Fittings and 304 Stainless Steel Fittings have their own advantages and disadvantages in different application scenarios, as follows:
316 Stainless Steel Fittings
Advantages
Strong corrosion resistance: the addition of molybdenum element makes it excellent in the resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, especially for chloride and other highly corrosive media resistance, suitable for marine environment, chemical industry and other highly corrosive environments.
Good performance of high temperature resistance: it can keep good mechanical properties and stability under higher temperature, and can be interrupted below 1600 degrees, and can be used continuously below 1700 degrees, which is suitable for pipeline system in high temperature environment.
Higher strength: compared with 304 stainless steel pipe fittings, its strength and hardness are higher, it can withstand greater pressure and external force, and it is more advantageous in some occasions with higher requirements for strength.
Disadvantages
Higher cost: due to the presence of valuable metal elements such as molybdenum and high requirements of production process, its price is more expensive than 304 stainless steel pipe fittings, which increases the material cost of the project.
Processing difficulty: the alloy composition is complex, making the processing process more strict requirements on equipment and technology, processing difficulty, processing cost is relatively high.
304 stainless steel pipe fittings
Advantages
Cost-effective: good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, can meet the requirements of most daily application scenarios, the price is relatively low, a good balance between performance and cost, is one of the most widely used stainless steel pipe fittings.
Good processing performance: good toughness and ductility, easy to bend, stamping, welding and other processing operations, can be made into a variety of shapes and specifications of the pipe fittings to meet the needs of different projects.
Wide range of applications: widely used in many fields such as building decoration, food and beverage, medical equipment, general industrial piping, etc., as it can provide reliable performance in these environments.
Disadvantages
Limited corrosion resistance: under specific conditions such as high-concentration chloride environments, strong acid and alkali environments, the corrosion resistance is not as good as 316 stainless steel pipe fittings, and corrosion may occur, affecting the service life.
Relatively poor performance in high temperature resistance: when the temperature exceeds 650℃, its mechanical properties will gradually decline, and the antioxidant capacity will be weakened, so it is not very suitable for long-term use in high temperature environments.
