Copper nickel flanges and stainless steel flanges are available in a wide range of pressures and are affected by a number of factors, which are summarized below:
Copper-nickel flanges
Generally speaking, the applicable pressure range of copper-nickel flanges is around 0.6MPa - 16.0MPa.
For some small-diameter copper-nickel flanges, after special design and manufacturing process, they can withstand higher pressure, which can reach 32.0MPa or even higher, but this situation is relatively rare.
Due to the limitations of material properties and manufacturing process, the large diameter copper-nickel flanges usually apply to relatively low pressure, generally between 0.6MPa - 4.0MPa.
Stainless steel flanges
Common stainless steel flanges are usually applied in the pressure range between 0.25MPa - 25.0MPa. Among them, 0.25MPa - 1.6MPa belongs to the low-pressure range, commonly used in some common industrial pipelines and civil building water supply and drainage, HVAC and other systems.
2.0MPa - 10.0MPa belongs to the medium pressure range, more common in the chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical and other industries in the pipeline system, these industries have high requirements for pipeline sealing and corrosion resistance, stainless steel flanges can meet these requirements and withstand the corresponding pressure.
15.0MPa - 25.0MPa belongs to the high-pressure range, commonly used in some high-pressure industrial piping systems, such as high-pressure steam piping, high-pressure chemical fluid transportation piping. In the high-pressure environment, the material strength, manufacturing precision and sealing performance of stainless steel flanges have higher requirements.
Special types of stainless steel flanges, such as flanges made of high-strength stainless steel materials or specially reinforced, can withstand higher pressures up to 42.0MPa or even higher, and are suitable for some extreme high-pressure special occasions, such as special piping systems in the fields of aerospace and deep-sea exploration.
In practice, the applicable pressure range of flanges is also closely related to the type of flanges (e.g. plate weld flanges, butt weld flanges, socket weld flanges, etc.), specifications and dimensions, connection methods as well as specific working environments, etc. When choosing flanges, it is necessary to select flanges according to the specific conditions. When selecting flanges, it is necessary to determine the appropriate flange type and specification according to the specific engineering requirements, through calculations, reference to relevant standards and norms, and combined with practical experience, in order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the piping system.
