Butt-welding Pipe Fittings CUNI Equal Tee 2'' SCH40 CuNi 7030 ASME B16.9
1. Product Description
This product is a butt-welding equal tee fitting manufactured in accordance with ASME B16.9 standards . The material is CuNi 70/30 (also designated as UNS C71500), a high-performance copper-nickel alloy composed of approximately 70% copper and 30% nickel . This 2" Schedule 40 fitting is designed for permanent butt-weld connection in demanding piping systems.
2. Key Product Parameters
| Parameter | Details / Range |
|---|---|
| Design Standard | ASME B16.9, ANSI B16.9 |
| Material Grade | CuNi 70/30 (UNS C71500 / DIN 2.0882) |
| Type | Equal Tee (Three ports: two inline "run" openings + one perpendicular "branch" opening) |
| Nominal Size | 2" (DN50) |
| Wall Thickness | Schedule 40 |
| End Connection | Butt-weld ends (beveled for welding) |
| Tensile Strength (min) | ~350–520 MPa (52,000 psi) |
| Yield Strength 0.2% (min) | ~130 MPa |
| Elongation (min) | ~36% |
| Density | ~8.94 g/cm³ (0.323 lb/in³) |
| Chemical Composition | Cu: Bal., Ni: 29.0-32.0%, Mn: 0.50-1.50%, Fe: 0.60-1.00% |
3. Application / Usage
This equal tee is ideal for demanding seawater and marine environments :
-
Marine & Shipbuilding: Seawater piping systems, offshore platforms, subsea applications, Naval surface ships
-
Power Generation: Condenser and heat exchanger piping
-
Chemical & Petrochemical: Corrosive fluid handling systems
-
Pump and Valve Connections: Branch and distribution points requiring high corrosion resistance
-
Dividing or combining flow within a main pipeline
4. Advantages
-
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Exceptional resistance to seawater corrosion, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking ; outperforms 90/10 CuNi in more hostile operating environments
-
Biofouling Resistance: Forms a protective oxide layer that resists biological fouling , making it ideal for marine immersion service
-
Enhanced Strength: High nickel content provides good strength and toughness
-
Good Weldability: Readily weldable using standard processes with ERCuNi filler material
-
Permanent Leak-Proof Connection: Butt-weld design provides high structural integrity for critical systems
5. Functions
The equal tee connects three sections of pipe in a T-shaped configuration, enabling fluid to be divided from a single inlet into two branch outlets, or combined from two inlets into one outlet . It provides a permanent, leak-proof junction point with three ports of equal diameter (2" run and branch).
6. Installation Instructions
-
Preparation: Degrease and clean pipe ends, tee weld areas, and filler metal of all contaminants (oil, grease, oxidation, dust) .
-
Edge Preparation: Bevel pipe ends and tee weld ends as per joint preparation requirements .
-
Alignment: Accurately align the tee with connecting pipes ensuring proper fit-up .
-
Tacking: Apply minimum tack welds to hold the assembly in position; clean thoroughly before final welding .
-
Welding: Use TIG (GTAW) process with ERCuNi filler wire (AWS A5.7 ERCuNi) . Preheat to min. 60°F (15°C) and maintain max. interpass temperature of 150°F (65°C) . Shielding gas: 100% argon, #6 cup minimum, flow rate 20-25 CFH . Use foot control to taper current off to prevent crater cracks .
-
Post-Weld Cleaning: Remove spatter and slag; clean with stainless steel brush or rotating flapper wheel to leave a bright finish .
7. Precautions
-
Temperature Control: Strictly control interpass temperature not exceeding 150°F (65°C) to avoid microcracking .
-
Crater Sensitivity: Stops/terminations are very sensitive to crater pits or cracks – always taper current off and grind all stops .
-
No Post-Weld Heat Treatment: Heat treatment is not required after welding .
-
Back Purging: Use 99.9% argon back-purge to prevent internal oxidation .
-
Filler Metal: Use matching 70/30 CuNi consumables (ERCuNi) .
-
Cleanliness: Requires a higher degree of cleanliness than for steel fabrication .
8. Shipping & Delivery
-
Standard delivery time is typically 15–30 days, subject to order quantity and specification availability.
9. Payment Terms
-
Common international payment methods include T/T (Telegraphic Transfer) and L/C at sight (Letter of Credit) .
10. Packaging
-
Products are securely packed in wooden crates or carton packaging with internal cushioning to ensure safe transportation and prevent damage during transit .
11. After-Sales / Return & Warranty Policy
