1. Product Description

This product is a seamless copper-nickel (CuNi) pipe manufactured from UNS C70600 (90/10 CuNi) in accordance with ASTM B466 and ASME B36.19M standards . CuNi 90/10, also known as CuNi10Fe1.6Mn, is a wrought copper alloy containing approximately 90% copper and 10% nickel, with minor additions of iron and manganese to enhance corrosion resistance and strength . This 10" Schedule 40 pipe is produced from cast billets via hot extrusion or piercing, followed by cold working and annealing processes, ensuring consistent quality and mechanical properties .

5. Functions

6. Installation Instructions

  1. Cleaning: Degrease and clean pipe ends and weld areas thoroughly; CuNi requires a higher degree of cleanliness than steel 

  2. Handling: Avoid contamination from carbon steel tools; use dedicated stainless steel tools 

  3. Cutting: Cut pipe squarely using appropriate methods; deburr ends

  4. Welding: Use GTAW (TIG) process with ERCuNi filler wire (AWS A5.7); use 100% argon shielding; back purge recommended for root pass to prevent internal oxidation 

  5. Post-Weld: No heat treatment required after welding; clean with stainless steel brush or rotating flapper wheel to leave a bright finish 

7. Precautions

  • Cleanliness: Requires a higher degree of cleanliness than standard carbon steel fabrication to prevent weld contamination 

  • Welding Heat Input: Requires more amperage than expected; puddle is sluggish with an oxide film 

  • Filler Metal: 70/30 CuNi consumables are often recommended for welding 90/10 due to superior deposition characteristics 

  • Crater Sensitivity: Use crater fill option or taper current to prevent crater cracks 

  • Compatibility: Not recommended for use with nitric acid or ammonia systems
