Butt-welding Pipe Fittings Short Type Stub End CuNi9010 1" SCH10 ASME B16.9
1. Product Description
This product is a butt-welding short type stub end, manufactured from CuNi 90/10 (Copper-Nickel 90/10, UNS C70600) in accordance with ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43 standards . Also known as CuNi10Fe1.6Mn, this alloy consists of approximately 90% copper and 10% nickel with small but important additions of iron and manganese to enhance overall strength and corrosion resistance . A stub end is a short pipe fitting used in conjunction with a lap joint flange to create a bolted, detachable connection . The short type features a shorter length (F dimension) compared to the long type, suitable for applications where space is limited . The 1" Schedule 10 fitting has a beveled end for butt-welding to the pipe, and a flared/lapped face for sealing against the flange.

3. Application / Usage
This stub end is ideal for seawater and corrosive fluid systems requiring frequent disassembly:
-
Marine & Shipbuilding: Seawater cooling systems, firewater lines, ballast systems
-
Offshore Oil & Gas: Seawater injection systems, heat exchangers
-
Desalination Plants: Seawater intake, reverse osmosis feed lines
-
Power Generation: Condenser cooling water systems
-
Chemical Processing: Corrosive fluid handling, where frequent pipeline dismantling is needed
4. Advantages
-
Superior Corrosion Resistance: Exceptional resistance to seawater, pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking; called "offshore engineering alloy" for this reason
-
Biofouling Resistance: Forms a protective oxide layer that naturally resists marine biological growth
-
Cost-Effective: Offers a favorable balance of performance and cost compared to 70/30 CuNi or higher nickel alloys
-
Easy Maintenance: Stub end design enables quick disassembly and reassembly without cutting or welding for pipeline inspection and cleaning
-
Excellent Weldability: Readily weldable using standard GTAW processes with matching ERCuNi filler
5. Functions
The stub end provides a detachable, leak-proof connection point within a piping system. When welded to the pipe end, its lapped face forms a seal with a lap joint flange and gasket, enabling the flange to rotate freely for bolt-hole alignment . This design is particularly useful for systems requiring frequent maintenance, cleaning, or component replacement .
6. Installation Instructions
-
Preparation: Degrease and clean pipe ends and stub end weld areas thoroughly; CuNi requires a higher degree of cleanliness than steel
-
Alignment: Accurately align the stub end's beveled end with the pipe end, ensuring proper fit-up
-
Welding: Use GTAW (TIG) process with ERCuNi filler wire (AWS A5.7); use 100% argon shielding; back purge recommended for root pass to prevent internal oxidation
-
Assembly: Slide the lap joint flange over the stub end, place a gasket between the lapped faces, and tighten bolts evenly
-
Post-Weld: No post-weld heat treatment required; clean with stainless steel brush to leave a bright finish
7. Precautions
-
Cleanliness: Requires a higher degree of cleanliness than carbon steel fabrication to prevent weld contamination
-
Temperature Limit: For aqueous corrosion service, limit to approximately 470°C; verify system conditions
-
Welding Heat Input: CuNi puddle is sluggish with an oxide film; requires appropriate amperage control
-
Compatibility: Not recommended for use with nitric acid or ammonia systems
-
Lap Face Protection: Protect the lapped face from scratches or damage during handling and installation
8. Shipping & Delivery
-
Standard delivery time is typically 15–30 days, subject to order quantity and specification availability
9. Payment Terms
-
Common international payment methods include T/T (Telegraphic Transfer) and L/C at sight (Letter of Credit)
10. Packaging
-
Products are securely packed in plywood cases or wooden crates with internal cushioning to ensure safe transportation and prevent damage during transit
11. After-Sales / Return & Warranty Policy
-
All products undergo strict quality inspection before shipment, with Mill Test Certificates (EN 10204 3.1/3.2) available
-
In case of quality issues, retain original packaging and provide relevant photos or third-party inspection reports
-
Specific return, exchange, and warranty terms are subject to the final sales contract agreement.
