Hastelloy Alloy Pipe Chemical Processing Corrosion Resistant Seamless Nickel Tube ASTM B622
1. Product Description
Hastelloy is a family of nickel‑molybdenum‑chromium superalloys pioneered by Haynes International, specifically developed for the most demanding corrosive environments in chemical, energy, and marine engineering. Hastelloy pipes are manufactured from vacuum‑melted and electro‑slag‑refined billets, then formed by hot extrusion or cold drawing to ensure high purity and microstructural uniformity. The principal grades are C‑276 (broadest corrosion resistance), C‑22 (superior resistance to oxidizing media), and B‑3 (optimized for reducing acids). When exposed to aggressive media such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, wet chlorine, or fluoride‑containing brines, Hastelloy pipes demonstrate far greater stability than ordinary stainless steels and even many other nickel alloys, earning the reputation of “universal corrosion‑resistant alloy piping.”
2. Product Applications
Hastelloy pipes are indispensable in the following critical sectors:
-
Sulfuric Acid Production and Phosphate Fertilizer Industry: Circulating acid lines in drying and absorption towers, as well as interconnecting pipes for high‑temperature converters.
-
Chlor‑Alkali and Salt Chemical Processing: Wet chlorine cooler piping, electrolyzer inlet/outlet lines, and brine preheater tube bundles.
-
Nuclear Power and Spent Fuel Reprocessing: Evaporator piping for radioactive liquid waste and cooling circulation systems for spent fuel storage pools.
-
Deep‑Sea Oil and Gas Extraction: Chemical injection lines for subsea production systems and clad‑pipe liners in offshore flowlines.
-
Waste‑to‑Energy and Hazardous Waste Treatment: Quench tower spray headers, flue‑gas reheater tube bundles, and high‑temperature scrubbing circulation pipes.
-
Aerospace Engine Systems: High‑temperature exhaust ducting and accessory gearbox cooling tubes located aft of the turbine section.
-
Fertilizer and Methanol Synthesis: Shift gas heat exchanger tubes and methanol converter feed/effluent piping.
3. Product Advantages
-
Broad‑Spectrum Corrosion Resistance: Maintains stable passive films across a wide pH range from strongly acidic to strongly alkaline, particularly resistant to mixed acids containing fluorides and chlorides, thereby expanding process operating windows.
-
Outstanding Intergranular Corrosion Resistance: With ultra‑low carbon (≤0.01%) and no sensitization tendency after stabilization heat treatment, there is no carbide precipitation along grain boundaries during welding or high‑temperature service.
-
High‑Temperature Oxidation and Carburization Resistance: Optimal chromium content promotes a dense chromium oxide scale in air or oxygen‑bearing flue gases up to 600°C, while inhibiting carbon diffusion into the substrate, thus extending component life at elevated temperatures.
-
Excellent Cold and Hot Formability: Supports conventional cold‑working operations such as bending, coiling, and tube expansion, as well as hot‑forming methods like hot pushing and hot bending, with corrosion resistance retained without immediate post‑forming heat treatment.
-
Precision Dimensional Control and Surface Finish: Seamless pipes are pickled, polished, or ground to achieve surface roughness Ra below 0.8 μm, meeting stringent cleanliness requirements for fluid conveyance.
