Hastelloy C276 Seamless Pipe ASTM B622 Nickel Alloy Tube Corrosion Resistant
1. Product Description
Hastelloy pipes are solid‑solution strengthened nickel‑based corrosion‑resistant alloy tubes containing molybdenum, chromium, iron, and tungsten as primary alloying elements. Developed and commercialized by Haynes International of the United States, these pipes are engineered to solve severe corrosion problems in chemical, petrochemical, and environmental protection sectors where conventional stainless steels are inadequate. The typical grade C‑276 is the most widely used "universal" alloy in the industry; C‑22 performs better in oxidizing environments; while B‑3 is specially formulated for reducing acids such as hydrochloric acid. Hastelloy pipes are manufactured by hot extrusion or cold drawing processes, available in both seamless and welded forms, covering the full size range from instrument tubing to large‑diameter process piping.
2. Product Applications
Hastelloy pipes are widely adopted in the following engineering fields:
-
Acid Production Industry: Reactor inlet/outlet lines, heat exchanger tube bundles, and tail‑gas scrubber piping in sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and phosphoric acid manufacturing plants.
-
Oil and Gas Extraction and Processing: Gathering pipelines in sour oil/gas fields, heat exchanger tubes in dehydration and desulfurization units, and wellhead injection lines for water and gas flooding.
-
Coal‑Fired and Waste‑to‑Energy Power Plants: Spray header mains, oxidation air piping, and demister wash lines in wet flue‑gas desulfurization systems.
-
Non‑Ferrous Metal Smelting: Circulating electrolyte mother‑liquor lines in electrolytic refining and abrasive slurry transfer pipes in anode slime treatment workshops.
-
Fine Chemicals and Dye Intermediates: Coils in chlorination reactors, cooling serpentines in nitration processes, and feed/effluent pipes for various batch autoclaves.
-
Seawater Cooling Systems: Condenser tube bundles in power plants and coastal industries, plate heat exchanger tubes, and seawater intake/discharge pipelines.
3. Product Advantages
-
Broad Corrosion Resistance: Maintains low corrosion rates in oxidizing acids, reducing acids, and mixtures of both; also performs well against wet chlorine, hypochlorites, and ferric chloride solutions.
-
Localized Corrosion Control: High resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion reduces the risk of localized perforation in chloride‑containing environments, significantly lowering the probability of sudden leakage failures.
-
Welding Process Adaptability: Can be welded by conventional GTAW, SMAW, and SAW processes without sensitization in the heat‑affected zone; post‑weld solution treatment is not required for safe service.
-
Predictable Service Life: Annual corrosion thinning rates under identical service conditions can be estimated by linear relationships, enabling rational planning of inspection and replacement schedules.
-
Mature and Stable Supply Chain: Several global mills are qualified to produce Hastelloy pipes; full size ranges are stocked with controllable delivery lead times to meet project schedules.
