1. Product Description
This stainless steel elbow is a butt-welding pipe fitting manufactured to ASME B16.9, designed to change the direction of fluid flow in a pipeline. Both ends are beveled for butt welding, creating a continuous, strong joint with the pipe. Made from stainless steel grades such as 304/304L and 316/316L, it offers excellent corrosion resistance and is suitable for high-pressure and critical applications. Available in 45°, 90°, and 180° configurations, in long radius (LR, R=1.5D) and short radius (SR, R=1D) forms.
2. Key Specifications

3. Applications
Widely used in petroleum, chemical processing, power generation, natural gas, water treatment, shipbuilding, and construction. Suitable for pipeline systems requiring corrosion resistance, high pressure integrity, and reliable performance in demanding environments .
4. Product Advantages
-
Seamless construction available, eliminating weld seams and reducing potential leak paths
-
Excellent corrosion resistance in chemical, marine, and humid environments
-
Smooth inner bore minimizes turbulence and pressure loss
-
Butt-welded connection provides high joint strength and reliable sealing
-
Available in multiple angles and radii for flexible piping design
-
Manufactured to ASME B16.9 for dimensional consistency and interchangeability
5. Product Functions
The elbow changes the direction of fluid flow within a pipeline system. The specific angle (45°, 90°, or 180°) determines the degree of direction change. Butt welding ensures a continuous, leak-resistant joint capable of withstanding pressure, temperature fluctuations, and vibration .
6. Instruction for Use
-
Verify elbow angle, size, schedule, and material match the pipeline design.
-
Inspect the beveled ends for cracks, dents, or deformation before installation.
-
Clean the pipe ends and elbow bevels; remove oil, rust, and debris.
-
Align the elbow with the pipe; control misalignment within allowable tolerance (typically ≤10% of wall thickness) .
-
Perform tack welding at multiple points to secure alignment.
-
Complete butt welding using qualified WPS and appropriate filler material.
-
Inspect the weld and perform pressure testing as required.
7. Precautions
-
Do not subject the elbow to impact or drop during storage and handling.
-
Keep stainless steel elbows away from contact with carbon steel or dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic corrosion.
-
Ensure the pipeline is depressurized and drained before installation or maintenance.
-
Do not use damaged or deformed fittings; inspect bevels for cracks before welding.
-
Use appropriate welding consumables matched to the stainless steel grade.
-
Install proper pipe supports near elbows to reduce stress concentration .
