1. Product Description
The tee is a butt welding pipe fitting with three openings, used to branch or merge fluid flow in pipeline systems. It is available in equal tee (all three openings of the same size) and reducing tee (branch opening smaller than the run openings). Both ends are beveled for butt welding, creating a continuous, strong, and leak-resistant joint with the pipe. Manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steel, the tee is suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature pipeline systems.
2. Key Specifications
Material: Carbon Steel (A234 WPB), Stainless Steel (304/304L, 316/316L), Alloy Steel (WP11, WP22)
Nominal Size: 1/2” – 48” (DN15 – DN1200)
Wall Thickness / Schedule: SCH10 – SCH160, STD, XS, XXS
Type: Equal Tee / Reducing Tee
Connection: Butt Weld (Beveled End)
Standards: ASME B16.9, ASTM A234, ASTM A403, DIN, JIS
Surface Treatment: Anti-rust oil, pickled, passivated, or galvanized
3. Applications
Petroleum and chemical processing pipelines
Natural gas transmission and distribution systems
Power generation and nuclear energy facilities
Shipbuilding and offshore engineering
Water treatment and municipal construction
Food processing and general industrial piping
4. Product Advantages
Butt-welded joints provide high strength and reliable sealing
Uniform wall thickness at the branch junction ensures structural integrity
Smooth inner bore minimizes turbulence and pressure loss
Available in a wide range of sizes, schedules, and materials
Compatible with standard welding procedures and equipment
Custom dimensions and materials available for specific projects
5. Product Functions
Equal tees divide a single flow into two equal branches or merge two equal flows into one
Reducing tees branch a smaller flow from a larger main line or connect pipes of different diameters
Maintain system pressure integrity while allowing flow distribution
Enable directional control, sampling, or parallel distribution in pipeline networks
6. Instruction for Use
Verify tee type, size, schedule, and material match the pipeline design
Inspect beveled ends for cracks, dents, or deformation before installation
Clean pipe ends and tee bevels; remove oil, rust, and debris
Align the tee with the pipe; control misalignment within 10% of wall thickness or 1 mm
Tack-weld at multiple points to secure alignment
Complete butt welding using an approved procedure (TIG root pass, SMAW or SAW fill/cap)
Check dimensions and alignment after welding
Perform pressure testing or non-destructive testing as required
7. Precautions
Do not subject the tee to impact or drop during storage and handling
Keep stainless steel tees away from carbon steel to prevent galvanic corrosion
Ensure the pipeline is depressurized and drained before installation
Do not use damaged or deformed fittings; inspect the branch junction for cracks before welding
Use welding consumables matched to the tee material
Install supports near the tee to avoid stress concentration
For high-pressure applications, use tees with verified material certificates
