Forged Stainless Steel Concentric Eccentric Reducer ASME B16.9 Fitting
1. Product Description
A Stainless Steel Elbow is a piping fitting used to change the direction of a pipeline, commonly available in 45°, 90°, and 180° angles. It is classified by bending radius into long-radius elbows (R=1.5D) and short-radius elbows (R=1.0D), and by connection type into butt-weld, threaded, socket-weld, press-fit, and clamp-on elbows. Typical materials include 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, and duplex stainless steels. Elbows are manufactured by hot-pushing, stamping, or forging and are widely used in corrosion-resistant, pressure-retaining, and hygienic piping systems.
2. Applications
Stainless steel elbows are used for pipeline direction changes in oil & gas, chemical processing, water treatment, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, power generation, shipbuilding, and HVAC industries. 90° elbows provide right-angle turns; 45° elbows provide gradual turns with lower pressure loss; 180° elbows are used for return bends and heat-exchanger connections. Hygienic elbows are common in food, dairy, and pharmaceutical lines requiring cleanable, dead-leg-free turns; butt-weld elbows suit high-pressure/high-temperature industrial piping; press-fit elbows are used in thin-wall stainless steel water piping systems.
3. Advantages
-
Excellent corrosion resistance: stainless steel resists water, chemicals, and cleaning agents, extending service life.
-
High pressure capability: butt-weld and forged elbows withstand high internal pressures for demanding industrial service.
-
Low flow resistance: long-radius elbows provide gradual transition, reducing turbulence and pressure drop.
-
Hygienic performance: polished interiors are smooth and free of dead legs, meeting food and pharmaceutical sanitation requirements.
-
Flexible installation: butt-weld, threaded, socket-weld, press-fit, and clamp connections are available; press systems enable flameless installation.
-
Wide size range: DN15–DN1200, schedules SCH5S–XXS, with custom angles and radii available.
4. Functions
The primary function of a stainless steel elbow is to change pipeline direction, allowing the piping system to follow equipment layout, building structure, and process routing. 90° elbows provide right-angle turns; 45° elbows provide gradual turns with reduced local resistance; 180° elbows are used for return bends. Long-radius elbows are used where pressure drop is critical, while short-radius elbows suit space-constrained installations. Elbows also serve to connect pipe sections, distribute stress, and guide smooth fluid turning.
