1.Product Description
API carbon steel pipe is a high-strength line pipe manufactured strictly in accordance with the American Petroleum Institute Specification 5L, Line Pipe. Originally published in 1924 as API’s very first standard, API 5L has undergone over a century of continuous refinement and remains the most globally recognized purchasing and manufacturing benchmark for oil and gas pipeline steel.
The product encompasses two major manufacturing categories: seamless pipe (SMLS) and welded pipe, with the latter further subdivided into Electric Resistance Welded (ERW), Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded (LSAW), Spiral Submerged Arc Welded (SSAW), and Electric Fusion Welded (EFW). In terms of quality levels, it is supplied as PSL1 (standard quality for general service) and PSL2 (higher quality with stricter chemical composition, mechanical property, and mandatory non-destructive testing requirements).
Steel grades cover Grade B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, and up to X80. The number following “X” denotes the minimum yield strength in ksi (thousand pounds per square inch). For instance, X65 signifies a minimum yield strength of 65,000 psi (approximately 448 MPa).
